WSOC – Charlotte, N.C.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — Police have charged a woman who they said confessed to killing 14 cats and left them in a suitcase near a dumpster in Cornelius.

Police said that on Oct. 15 officers were called to One Norman Square Apartments and spoke with an employee who told them he found a suitcase near the dumpster.

While throwing the suitcase away the employee discovered 14 dead cats inside.

Police said the employee was able to identify 41-year-old Aimee Cook because they recognized the suitcase outside her apartment, as well as recognizing one of the dead cats.

When officers questioned Cook, they said she confessed to killing the animals, telling them she was overwhelmed by the cats because of recent unplanned litters.

Cook allegedly tried to take the cats to a no-kill shelter but was unsuccessful and ended up poisoning them.

The Cornelius Animal Shelter said they were never contacted by Cook.

Cook has officially been charged with 14 felony counts of animal cruelty.
